Week 09

"I do think that quality is key. [Women] are very good at organizing and discipline and patience, and patience is 50% of editing. You have to keep banging away at something until you get it to work. I think women are maybe better at that."

-Thelma Shoonmaker

Editor Sally Menke worked closely with Quintin Tarantino on all his films until her sudden death in 2010. Tarantino adored Menke, and never felt his "babies" were safer than when in her "motherly" hands. He often acknowledged her on-set between takes, calling "Hi, Sally!" into the camera, and instructing the cast and crew to do so as well, as surprises for her in the editing room. Tarantino deeply felt her departure, and recognized her as his "only true, genuine collaborator."
